Pirates of the Great Lakes!

Pirates of the Great Lakes! In-Person

Learn all about Chicago's "inland sea" and her freshwater pirates... from the legendary King Jesse Strang of Beaver Island, to "Roaring" Dan Seavey, these strange and sordid tales of mutiny, raids, and battles at sea will shed light on the little known piratical history of our own Lake Michigan.

Sam Prestigiacomo is a lifelong Chicagoan, artist, and historian living on the city's north side. Since earning a BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015, Sam has extensively researched local history to inform her art practice and explore her family's roots in the area. Sam is a lecturer affiliated with Chicago for Chicagoans, a nonprofit organization that teaches residents about the history of their own city.
